APPLE-BAKE() - BAKED APPLES
BAKED APPLES - A quick substitute for apple pie
INGREDIENTS (Serves 4)
- (4)
- green apples
(crispy, tart, medium sized—Granny Smiths are good)
- 8 cm (3 in.)
- stick cinnamon,
broken and ground (use a coffee grinder.)
Alternative:
7 ml
powdered cinnamon.
- (14)
- allspice berries,
ground the same way (makes interesting coffee afterwards).
Alternative:
5 ml
allspice.
- 1 ml (1/8 tsp)
- grated nutmeg
- 100 g (½ cup)
- brown sugar
- 45 g (3 Tbsp)
- butter
(grate if cold)

- juice of ½ medium lemon
- 120 g (3/4 cup)
- golden raisins
- 65 g (¼ cup)
- dried pitted prunes
- 100 g (3/4 cup)
- chopped walnuts
(or other nuts)
PROCEDURE

Preheat oven to
200°C .
Butter a deep baking dish that has a lid.

Core the apples but do not peel them. Arrange them in the dish.
Cut apples to fit, if necessary.

Combine all remaining ingredients in bowl.
Mix well (this is where grating the butter comes in handy).
Stuff this mixture into the holes and spaces in and between the apples.

Bake covered at
200°C
for about 30 minutes.
Serve hot with vanilla ice cream (spoon extra sauce over ice cream).

easy.
Time:
10 minutes preparation, 30 minutes cooking.
Precision:
measure the spices.
