Was it in contact with, excessive heat, oil, or other ?? You should wash it in a frount loader at the laundrymat with lukewarm water and a tablespoon of non detergent soap. After the spin cycle take it out and flake it out on a clean surface out of the sun and let dry for 24hr. Check the rope like your life dependends on it because it does. Check for kinks in the core or sheath, pull the rope in a 3inch loop around you index and middle finger and run the whole rope over thoes fingers looking for any flat spots. Make sure the sheath is not bunched up on the core of the rope. After all this, show the rope to the local climbers in you area and get at least three opions. If any of them say chuck it CHUCK IT!! you life and the life of your climbing buddys is not worth $150. pbd2602@is.nyu.edu (Peter B.
